Q. How does volunteer group make decisions? Majority or Consensus

A. We think formal consensus. Majority rule.

Casey will submit application. We will be added to website and people will be encouraged to contact us.

CPA – paperwork not finished prior to this meeting. Need to research whether federal rules concerning non-profit changes will affect us. IRS new definition of non-profits.

  • Need a volunteer to check on changes.

More Review of Notes from Free Geek:

Walked through “how they got the money”. 35K startup from Oregon ADEQ fund for experimental projects. Easy to get matching funds from other organizations. Then outreach. Grants are customarily hard for start ups, but we can use Portland grant applications as a template or reference. They also recommend the Foundation Guidebook. Restricted grants are easier to get, but harder to evaluate. Need 3 year tax history for grants. The federal Community Development Block Grant applications for Fayetteville are due September 8, 2006. Capacity building grants for expansion. Educational grants.

Casey will send link to WIKI and asks that all board members set up an account. Please keep us all updated. wiki.freegeekarkansas.org

Casey also described the new Project Board. Casey will take pictures for WIKI as they change. Every aspect of the organization will be represented on the board with colors.
